Squish Bear

I woke up the morning of October 25 with a few contractions and some show. So I decided to go for a walk to see if that would move things along. I had a few more contractions while I was walking, but then they stopped. Later that day they started up again and got within 3-5 minutes. But, shortly after I called my midwife (Paula) to give her a heads up, they stopped again. I jokingly told Josh that they would start again once the kids were asleep. Wouldn’t you know, shortly after we put Caleb to bed the contractions started up again- and they were coming hard and fast! Within 30 minutes they were 2 minutes apart. I called Paula to tell her what was going on. Josh called his mom and then I called my doula, Rae Lynn.

By 10:30PM, Paula, her assistant, Erin, and Rae Lynn had all arrived. About an hour later, I decided to get in the tub to help with the back pain I was having. Sometime shortly after that, Josh’s mom arrived and Caleb and Ellie both woke up. I continued to labor in the tub using Josh to support me as I leaned over. After about an hour in the tub I finally felt the urge to push. At that point I sat back so I could pull against Josh.

The pushing was hard, but it was also a huge relief to know that I was almost done. Once the head started to crown, Josh and I were able to guide the baby out. It was an incredible experience to be the ones to deliver Caedmon.

Once Caedmon was on my chest, Paula clamped the cord and Josh was able to cut it. Caleb came over at this point and gently touched Caedmon’s head. Once we were settled into bed, Joyce brought Ellie over and we were able to relax as a family.

Caedmon was born completely covered in vernix and weighed right around 7lbs. Because of this, Paula figured that my due date may have been wrong. Caedmon may have been as much as a week early. Just wish I would have know that before my due date came and went!
