Sarge took Junior camping last weekend.  They wanted to try winter camping, but here in TX, that means over night it didn't get below 45* (although it was suppose to be below freezing). A couple months ago, I came across some information about a New Year's Eve and New Year's Day race. You had the choice of running any combination of a 5k, 1/2 marathon, 1/2 marathon relay and a full marathon on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. We had to take some drastic measures around here last night... The kids cannot leave the tree and presents alone.  And even with the police line, they're still pushing their luck. Every year, Dallas First Church (where I go for MOPs) has a live Nativity.  We took the kids to see it last night. I love the expression on her face. The donkeys were Molly and Jelly Bean.  You can see the sheep in the background.  They didn't come close enough for the kids to pet them. This is Clyde the camel. Six months already.  Six months and you've already been through more than most people ever go through. Post- op appointment with the cardiologist yesterday.  He said everything looks great.  There is still some leaking around the valves, but it's less than what is normally seen in kids who've had an AV canal repair.  He also said we can take Sweet Pea off of all her medication.  Yeah!  Because

Two days post- op Sweet Pea is making progress.  Her chest tube and pacer wires came out this morning.  The nurses are optimistic that the atrial line will be out today as well.  I'm glad the tubes and wires are slowly disappearing.  Nursing has been a bit of a challenge- trying to get her situated without getting tangled up =)  But we're making it work. Today was the day. After an early, early wake up, we headed to the hospital.  Everyone we came into contact with was wonderful- so willing to let us know exactly what was going on and how long things would take. The countdown is down to hours.  In less than 14 hours we will be handing Sweet Pea over to have her heart fixed.  Gulp. Her pre- op appointment went great.  I'm very impressed with the hospital and their accommodations for families. We also received a bead necklace with Sweet Pea's name on it and a colored bead for every procedure she will have done.  It's a way for her to tell her story-

Posts the next few days may be sporadic.  Sweet Pea has her pre- op appointment tomorrow and then Wednesday morning we need to be at the hospital by 6am. I'm anxious, scared and a whole mix of emotions, but I also know she needs to have her heart fixed. Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Remembrance Day.   Although it felt like my heart was broken into a million pieces when Sweet Pea was born, I realize how blessed I am to be able to hold her in my arms and see her sweet smile.  Many of my friends never had the chance to experience that with their little ones. Sarge gave permission for the instructors at the dojo to start teaching junior how to do awesome, amazing flip kicks.  Practice started the other day. Hot enough to melt crayons. The kids and I unwrapped a bunch of crayons, put them in molds and set them outside for a couple hours. Sarge earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do today. We are all very proud of him =) This is what he really does when he's deployed... His breaks.  He's so important that he had a world record holder in breaking stack his bricks for him. And his sixteenth (last) and toughest fight... Sweet Pea had her 2 month check- up yesterday.  And while the pediatrician continues to try and make me worry about how she's doing, Sweet Pea is doing just fine =)   She was up to about 8lbs 10oz and 20.5".  So she's still gaining a bit over half an ounce a day.  Which is very good.  And she's gained an inch and a half in length.   She goes in to see the cardiologist next week.  He plans on

Junior had the chance to break some boards at TKD yesterday.   His awesome front kick. And with his knee.  Worked a lot better once Mr. Lopez stood up to hold the board. And now he's informed us that he wants to enter tournaments just so he can break more things =)

Found this little critter in my dryer the other day... Oh yes, it is a scorpion. Sarge and the kids thought it was really cool (hence it being "mounted" on card stock).  It's only about 2- 2 1/2 inches long,  but still creepy enough for me. Sweet Pea had an appointment with the eye doctor this morning.  Yes, they can actually tell you a lot of things this young. Good news is that her eyes look just like any other newborn's eyes look.  The doctor did "confirm" the Downs diagnosis.  In Downs children, there are extra blood vessels in the back of the eye, and Sweet Pea has those.  The extra blood vessels isn't a problem though, it's

So I missed it by a couple days (June 8), but Sweet Pea is one month old now.  It doesn't seem like she should be that old, but yet it seems like she's always been here =) She had a check up with the pediatrician on Wednesday.  According to their scales, she's 7lbs 11oz.  Which is good.  It means that she's gained 20oz (about 0.65 oz/ day).  That is a bit above average for Down's babies- they

Girly- girl and I went on a walk last night.  It would have been a bit faster, but she needed to stop every few yards... Look, but don't touch! I had the opportunity to watch a friend's kids the other day.  Girly- girl was in heaven.  Someone her own age to play with. Just a short post tonight.  Trying to get back into my routines and trying to find time to do everything I need to get done =) A trip to the park this afternoon.  Weather was beautiful- 70 degrees and sunny. Two of my three monkeys.  Both of them love to climb. Junior- junior was all ready to go hunting.  If I could just figure out what he was hunting =) We brought home a new family member.

Our Sunday School class is having their Christmas party tonight and the dinner menu includes Chinese food.  I was instantly reminded of this clip: In honor of that, I decided to make sushi, pork lo mein and fried rice to bring along. This last weekend we were invited over to one of Sarge’s co- worker’s house for a birthday party.  Lots of yummy food and even a clown for the kids.  A princess and a saber- toothed tiger.
