Heatwave

While the last couple days of February have been warmer than average, that's not the heatwave I'm talking about.  Just like last year, Junior competed at the Texas Heatwave Tournament.  This year he competed in kata and sparring.  While he didn't place in either, he did amazingly well in both competitions.

He's not running away, he's just going back to his seat after checking in.

Waiting to start his kata.

Almost finished.

And here he is sparring.

Sarge decided to join in the fun this year too.  He decided to break bricks.

He broke 7 of 10 bricks to take first in his division.

I'm so proud of both of them =)

Up- cycled Blanket

Here is the blanket to go with the wedding dress up- cycle.  It's the perfect size to go in the car seat or in a bassinet.

The flower petals and the butterfly wings are not stitched down, so Baby D will be able to play with them...  That is if her mama lets her have the blanket =)

Up- cycled, Down- sized Wedding Dress

I posted this on my design blog.  But decided to post it here as well so Grandma can get her fix of cute baby pictures =)

A couple months ago, a friend asked me if I would be willing to take her wedding dress and make a dedication gown for her new baby daughter.  And I said "Of course!"

The before picture.  A strapless dress with a colored sash and a bolero jacket.  The veil had tiny pearls and rhinestones on it.

And the start of the after pictures.  Sweet Pea decided to cooperate this time =)  A simple bodice dress with cap sleeves and a (very) gathered skirt.  The dress is completely lined- no tulle to make it poofier though.

Girly- girl was standing behind me making faces and singing silly songs.  I guess she didn't like the song as much.

I took the sash and down- sized it.  It looks bigger than it really is because of how Sweet Pea is sitting.

I took the veil and turned it into an apron for the dress- just added a pink ribbon at the top.

She really liked the feel of the veil.

I also made a completely reversible jacket.  This is the white side.

And this is the brown side.

Here is the dress and jacket with out the adorable model.  The shape of the jacket is easier to see hanging up.

I still have some of the dress left and will be working on a blanket with it.  I haven't done any quilting, so that should be an interesting challenge =)

Happy Valentine's Day!

This is what the kids woke up to for breakfast.

And they're actually healthy =)

I found the recipe here.

But if you're to lazy to click over, here's the recipe.

Giant Breakfast Cookies (via Heavenly Homemaker)
1 cup butter, melted
¾ cup honey
2 eggs
1 t. salt
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. baking soda
1 t. vanilla
½ cup buttermilk
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups whole rolled oats
1 cup raisins or chocolate chips

Mix butter, honey, eggs, salt, cinnamon, soda, vanilla and buttermilk. Stir in flour and oats. Fold in raisins or chocolate chips. Scoop heaping tablespoons of dough onto a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Allow cookies to cool 3-4 minutes on cookie sheet before removing cookies to cool on a wire rack.
I think the next time I make these I might throw in some raisins...  Or chopped apples.

Another month already?

How did another month sneak up on us?  Sweet Pea can't possibly be 9 months old already, can she?

In the last month, she's started doing this:

Oh wait, that's not it...

That's better =)

Now we just need to work on her getting her arms underneath her so she can build up some arm strength.

She's decided she likes prunes.

And of course, she's started doing this.

But most important, at her cardiologist appointment today, the doctor decided that her heart looks about as perfect as it can get and doesn't want to see her again until she's 2.  Can y'all see me doing a happy dance right about now?

Daddy- Daughter Date Night

Chick- Fil- A organized another Daddy- Daughter Date Night this last weekend.

Girly- girl has been looking forward to this night since she got home from her date last year =)

All dressed up and ready to go.

Big hugs...

Acting goofy...

Sarge and Girly- girl had a great time together.  They went to dinner and then roamed around Home Depot for a little while.

The boys and I had pizza and watched a movie =)

Seeing Purple

Junior has me seeing purple.  But only because he tested for his purple belt on Friday.

Sarge got to sit on the board.  But don't worry, he wasn't grading Junior.  That would have been unfair =)

Fighting stance

Tan Goon

Chungi

Taking down the black belt...  I mean showing off his one steps.

Junior was named Student of the Month for January.  He's walking down the line of black belts shaking their hands...

Fighting stance with a reverse open hand high block

A cat stance with a downward palm block and open hand high block.

We're very proud of our little ninja.  But, please don't tell him to hit you as hard as he can.  It's really kind of painful.

How awesome is this?

Sweet Pea got her Christmas present from Papa in the mail today.  It's late because he didn't know what to make and had to ask me and then look for a pattern.  Oh, and the fact that he tried to cut off his finger probably didn't help =)

It's a shape sorter box- shapes and colors.

On the inside of the cover it explains what each type of wood (on the cover) represents.

Cherry: to cherish your loved ones
Walnut: for the nuts in your life, er, the nuttiness in your life
Tiger Wood (no, not the golfer): for her spunk
Purple Heart: for her strong little heart

Girly- girl was showing her how to use it.

"This one Sissy?"

But more importantly...

She's sitting on her own!!!!

How awesome is that?

Pinewood Derby

Last weekend, Junior had the Pinewood Derby for his Cub Scout Troop.  Yes, he's in Cub Scouts now.  In fact, the Monday before the Pinewood Derby was his first meeting.  Which meant that he created his car in less than a week =)

And he wanted to design a tank.

All the cars...

And the track.

The most important part- the prizes.

Patiently waiting.  Girly- girl wants to design a car for next year- pink of course- for the open division.  And Squish Bear can't wait to join Cub Scouts.

And they're off!

The results after the Wolf Den's 4 heats.

Oh, look at that!  Junior took 3rd!

Obligatory cute picture for Grandma...

Waiting for the awards.

With his prizes- a bronze medal and a compass/ thermometer/ whistle for camping.
