A Mini Vacation

Sarge had some business to take care of in Austin last week, so we turned it into a mini family vacation (hey, if the hotel and gas are paid for you need to take advantage of it =))  And since it was Junior's birthday, he thought we planned it all for him ;)

What was waiting to greet us when we got into our room- which was a really nice suite with a full kitchen!

Hmmm...  Almost looks like Sarge is waiting for a pedicure ;)

In the pool.  Surprisingly, it wasn't unbearable being outside and the water was actually cool.

Slinging it with Sweet Pea.

Friday morning (which just happened to be Junior's 7th! birthday)  We ventured downtown to the Childrens' Museum.  Of course this was Squish Bear's favorite part...

It was fun until other kids started coming up and taking the trains away from them.  Um, what ever happened to parents teaching their kids to wait their turn and to share?

Not sure what this was called, but when you hit the top (colored part) of the pipe, it made music.  I'm thinking Papa needs to build the kids one of these lol!

Excavating...

And building

The sign says "Build Your Dream House"  Squish Bear was having fun.

Girly- girl was doing a little roofing.

Hanging out in the "clubhouse"

Girly- girl's turn

And Junior's turn to do some roofing.

Sarge called us shortly before lunchtime to tell us he was finished for the day.  So we headed over to the base to pick him up.  As we were driving around, we saw an outdoor museum with some planes and helicopters.  Then we got to this one...

And couldn't believe how "real" it looked.  Then we saw the pilot get in.  And a few minutes later, we were able to watch this...

As we were leaving the parking lot, we noticed a lot of DPW vehicles sitting nearby.  And then we heard another helicopter and got to watch the DPW helicopter land.

This base also had a museum, so we headed over there to see what they had.  We were impressed.  It was the largest museum that we've seen at a base- course, I haven't been to too many bases, so I'm comparing it to Ft McCoy ;)

The museum covered different battles from the Alamo up through Vietnam.  We found this sign hanging in the WWII area.

I didn't take too many pictures in the museum.  I can only stand to have so many tanks, armored vehicles and other such military items rotating through my screen saver.  But, I did get some pictures of the kids in the "interactive" displays.

In the cockpit.

Sarge explaining how to fly.

Girly- girl's turn.

Although they can wear Sarge's uniforms when ever they want, these were much more entertaining.

It was so heavy that Squish Bear couldn't keep it on.

Future helicopter pilot?

Sarge explaining all about the mess vehicle and how cool it would be to have so of the items for a camping trip.

On the way out of town, we stopped at Inner Space Caverns.  It was first discovered in 1963 by highway crews drilling to put supports in for I35.

I didn't take too many pictures because, well, because it's a cave and it's dark =)

Junior thought the best part was seeing the bats flying around inside- we got to see one "wake up" and start flying.  Girly- girl and Squish Bear liked it best when we were done.  And Sweet Pea slept through the whole thing.

It's always neat to see the different formations, but very disappointing that they have to push the "millions of years" script.  We counted at least 10 times that the tour guide contradicted himself on dates, how they date cave formations and the "prehistoric" animals.  Why can't they just admit that they don't know how long it takes for things to form and that the rate it forms at varies because of different water and mineral levels?

All in all it was a good trip, but I was happy to get home.  And now we're looking forward to (relatively) cooler weather this weekend.  It might only be in the 90's!

Beauty

Last weekend, I had the chance to have nursing pictures taken by the very talented Mae Burke of Mae Burke Photography.  Not knowing what to expect, I was immediately put at easy by her beautiful smile and outgoing personality (I'm sure the chunkalicious baby she was carrying didn't help either =))

She helped us get set up- spread out the blanket, made sure I was comfortable sitting...  And said to just let Sweet Pea start when ever she was ready.  Then she started snapping away.  I hardly noticed she was there.  Sweet Pea noticed and couldn't take her eyes off her lol!

This has to be my absolute favorite one.  This is how I see my babies for so long and now I have a way to capture that perfect look of love.  I didn't notice it when I first looked at the picture, but I love how she's holding onto my hand...

She looks so excited in this picture.  I adore the belly and belly button.  None of my other kids have had such a cute looking belly button.

These pictures are a celebration of how far Sweet Pea has come.  Two months ago, I was mentally preparing myself to having to pump for the next year and now, I'm celebrating that she won't take a bottle anymore (Sorry Grandma, I was thrilled to hear she refused to eat while Sarge and I were out on our date =)).

When we first learned about Sweet Pea's diagnosis, so many thoughts ran through my mind.  Regretfully, one was that she wouldn't be as *cute* as her brothers and sister.  These pictures have helped me see that she may not be *cute* like her siblings were, but that she definitely has a beauty that's all her own.  A heartfelt thank you to Mae for capturing this unique beauty.

Sweet Pea's All Wrapped Up

Sweet Pea's wrap has been done for a few weeks, but it's taken me this long to get pictures of her in it =)

She was taking a nap in it for her pictures, otherwise, she would have had her head out looking around =)

Dedicated

My in- laws were in town this weekend for Junior's birthday, so we decided to have Sweet Pea dedicated.

Come back here Squish Bear...

No, she's not playing with her phone.  She's holding Sweet Pea's new *pink* Bible.  She's now trying to claim it as her own.

Brother Jack praying for her.

Princesses

Some days I just need an easy project- something that goes together easily and quickly.  That's why I really like the fabric that is already smocked and hemmed.

I found the perfect fabric for Girly- girl.

Fifteen minutes later, one seam and four ribbons, Girly- girl had a new dress.

Yup, she's pretty happy with the new dress =)

Flippin'

Sarge gave permission for the instructors at the dojo to start teaching junior how to do awesome, amazing flip kicks.  Practice started the other day.

And then other day, Junior decided he needed to flip his room...

Remember when it looked like this?

I walked in to find it looking like this.

Yup, Junior rotated the bunk beds to give him more room to practice his flips in his room.

Late night visitor...

Twas the night before last, when all through the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
When, what, to my wonder eyes should appear...

Running back up the stairs before I "saw" him.

Stopping to model for me.

His brother being as quiet as a mouse.

His sister doing her best to keep her brothers from laughing.

The kids are camping out upstairs for a few days while I work on cleaning (ie purging) their rooms.  But, now I'm thinking maybe we'll just keep them up there.

100 and then a giveaway

I was looking at my Designs By Lynette Facebook page the other day, and saw that I'm really close to 100 people who like me.  So, to encourage a few more new fans, I thought I would do a giveaway when I reach 100.

What's up for grabs?  Not 100% sure yet =)  But, I was thinking something along the lines of this...

Or this...

Or maybe something completely different =)

How hot is it?

Hot enough to melt crayons.

The kids and I unwrapped a bunch of crayons, put them in molds and set them outside for a couple hours.

Completely ignore all the weeds in the patio.  It's been too hot to get outside to pull them, but apparently, not hot or dry enough to kill them.

We brought the molds back in after a couple hours, let them cool and now we have this.

The kids are super excited about their "new" crayons.  And now I have a use for all the broken crayons that don't get used.

It's also hot enough outside to dry my diapers faster than the dryer.  And the added benefit is that "sunning" your diapers really does get rid of the stains on them =)
