Up Close and Personal

We went to the Dallas Zoo on Thursday. And got up close and personal with one of the gorillas =) He came up and sat down right in front of the glass. The kids loved it.

There's lots of bronze statues through out the zoo.  Junior- junior wasn't real sure about getting too close to them.

This is Bordeaux, a 9 foot albino alligator.

I was trying to warn Junior- junior of the dangers of drinking and walking.  He has a new bump on the head now.

Something new to occupy my time...

Because I don't have enough things to keep me busy during the day... Or maybe because I needed something that was portable when I'm waiting at places. Whatever the reason, I am re- teaching myself how to crochet.

My first project was a hat for Girly- girl. Pretty simple pattern. I started with an adjustable ring with 12 dc. Then in the next 4 rounds I added 12dc. Then 5 rounds with 60dc and the final round had 180 dc to form the ruffle. At least that was the plan =) There may be more or less depending on how my counting went.

And for Virginia- I am still working on the knitting. It's too awkward yet for me to start projects =)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

It's November and time to start thinking about Christmas. And while I don't put my Christmas decorations up until after Thanksgiving, I figured it was time to start listing Christmas items in my etsy store. I have three sets of Christmas themed napkins and one set of fall ones listed. I'll be adding some more listings later today (need to get batteries for my camera :))

These napkins are listed here.

These are listed here.

And the snow topped ones are listed here.
And for those of you who want fall themed napkins, these are for you. They are a brown basket weave pattern lined with a pale yellow basket weave pattern.
I'm also taking custom order requests for the napkins and for aprons. I have a few other ideas of Christmas items floating around in my head, but I may not have time to get to them.

An unexpected surprise

My MIL was here the last couple days for a visit. On Friday we took off on a drive to see what hidden treasures we could find.

Our first stop was Common Threads Quilt Shop. It was a really neat store to visit. Lots of beautiful quilts hanging on the walls and plenty of fabric to choose from. This quilt shop specializes in reproduction fabrics. Mostly 1930's and earlier. I will definitely be going back lol!

Our next stop was The Greenery. Next to quilt shops/ fabric stores, nurseries are my next favorite places to visit. This one was amazing. Not only did they have lots of plants, but they also had lots of interesting hard scape. But the best part of it was walking around a corner and coming upon this:

An unexpected garden oasis.

This was Junior's favorite item in the garden.

There were lots of other interesting things to see. Unfortunately my camera's batteries decided to die =( I guess that just means that I'll have to go back to get more pictures.
